Prevention is better than cure...

How acupuncture can support the full cycle of wellness
Preventive medicine is the idea that you can prevent future disease and illness before they happen by proactively taking steps to improve your health in the present. Which of course, makes perfect sense, right? No one would choose to be unwell, so why wouldn’t we take the necessary steps to ensure we stay well?
As a society, we’ve been getting much better in terms of thinking about healthy living in recent years, whether we’re focused more on a balanced diet, exercise or smoking or drinking less, or taking up things like yoga, mindfulness and meditation, and self-care in general.
But the reverse is true as well, in that the world we live in now is much more stressful, and has much more of an impact on our wellbeing and overall health so that it can be hard to juggle everything and still feel in control.
However, acupuncture can be really useful in this case, because it covers both aspects - it can be used both preventatively and curatively. In fact, the idea of preventative medicine has been ingrained in Eastern Medicine and philosophy for centuries. The Huang Di Nei Jing, one of the foundational texts of Chinese Medicine, advocates that a good doctor does not treat disease after it has happened, but rather before it arises and regulates it before it manifests.
So really, the best time to seek out acupuncture is when you feel “healthy” and not when you are sick. I’ve put “healthy” in inverted commas there because I feel a lot of the time we think we’re doing ok but if we’re honest, we’re just making do and there’s always a couple of niggles that we put up with or ignore, and we put off the going to see someone who can actually help.
Chinese Medicine looks at everything from the perspective of balance and how to bring things back into line, so by getting in there early your practitioner is able to identify problems that might just be starting to shift towards ill health but not necessarily manifesting as anything noticeable yet. But addressing it early means you’re able to tackle it more easily before it becomes a major issue.
So let’s change how we think of acupuncture - it should be something that you can have at any time, not just when you’re unwell.
Use it to maintain good health for the long term
Use it to tackle any sudden illnesses that might suddenly appear
Use it to support recovery while you get yourself back to full health.
