Find out more about acupuncture treatments for anxiety in Morden...

We have all felt anxious at some point in our lives, I’m sure - it is a natural response to pressure that we experience, but if it becomes intense or overwhelming in everyday life then it becomes a challenge.
If you suffer from anxiety, you may already use a set of calming exercises, have tried CBT or are able to manage it some way that works for you.
But if you’re here, then you’re wondering what makes acupuncture helpful for anxiety.
What can acupuncture do for anxiety?
Well, firstly acupuncture is a holistic therapy, so it engages all the parts that make you, you - the physical, the mental, even the spiritual…body, mind and spirit as they say.
Acupuncture is also all about regulation - the main aim of an acupuncture treatment is to get your Qi, or energy, flowing and ensuring your systems are all balanced. This means it can help to promote relaxation, regulate your mood and help with sleep.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine point of view, acupuncture is not a single generic condition, but rather we would look at the signs and symptoms that you are experiencing and then figuring out what the underlying imbalance might be. By addressing this root imbalance, then the body because more able to regulate and calm itself.
As part of your first treatment, we would discuss your key symptoms as well as medical history, lifestyle etc. I might also do some physical checks including pulse and tongue diagnosis, to determine the underlying TCM pattern and then tailor your acupuncture treatment to your particular case - depending on what pattern presents itself, I’ll pick points which are best suited for you, and I might also use other tools or techniques like cupping, moxa or gentle stretching in combination with acupuncture needles.
The treatment usually lasts 20 - 30 mins while you relax on the table, and I’ll check on you periodically to see how you’re doing and maybe make some adjustments.
As I mentioned earlier, most people will feel relaxed during their treatment, but sometimes it takes a while to get the changes to stick longer term, depending on the level of your anxiety. But you will see gradual improvement over several sessions. We’ll map out a treatment plan for you during your first session so you can understand how many treatments you might need, and also if you need to come more frequently for treatment in the first week or two.
Now, I understand that someone sticking needles into you might be a daunting idea, but if you need to chat through any aspect of treatment or want to find out more, then just get in touch, or even come in for a free consultation/chat about your symptoms and we can see how I can help!
